FAQ
The questions worth asking any installer
If an answer depends on your specific equipment or utility, we say so instead of generalizing.
Section 1
Outage and backup
Will my existing solar power my home during an outage?
Generally not by itself. Grid-tied systems are required to stop exporting during an outage. Backup requires compatible equipment and controls.
Can I back up my whole home?
Sometimes, with site-specific engineering, adequate capacity, and load management. Whole-home capability does not mean unlimited runtime.
How long will the battery last during an outage?
It depends on usable capacity, which loads are backed up, starting loads, weather, solar recharge, and your behavior during the outage.
Can I run my air conditioner on battery?
Only if the design supports the starting and running load. This requires review of the equipment and may require additional hardware.
Section 2
Retrofits and equipment
Can a battery be added to any solar system?
No. Compatibility depends on your inverter or microinverter model, panel capacity, wiring, space, and utility rules.
What if my system is leased or on a PPA?
Third-party agreements can restrict modifications. We review the agreement implications before recommending anything.
Which brands do you install?
[LIST AFTER VENDOR ACCOUNTS ARE CONFIRMED.] We do not install equipment we are not authorized to support.
Section 3
Process, fees, and timelines
Do you charge for an assessment?
[ASSESSMENT FEE AND CREDIT POLICY — verify before publishing.]
How long does a project take?
Timelines depend on permitting, utility interconnection, and equipment availability. We provide estimates and update you at each stage.
Do I need a panel upgrade?
Sometimes. This is determined by load calculations and the existing panel's capacity.
Section 4
Warranty, service, and money
What is covered by warranty?
Our workmanship coverage and the manufacturer's product warranties are separate, with different terms and exclusions.
Do you offer maintenance plans?
Yes. Tiers, scope, and pricing are listed on the maintenance page and are configurable.
Do you offer financing?
We can share third-party financing information. All financing is subject to credit approval; rates and terms vary.
Will I save money or get incentives?
Savings and incentive eligibility depend on your utility, usage, equipment, and current programs. We do not publish figures without written support.
Answers are general information, not a design or a commitment. Backup performance, savings, incentives, and warranty coverage must be verified for your specific system and address.
Still deciding?
A short call can tell you whether a retrofit or a new system is the more realistic path for your home.
